Priority species

Priority species are those that still have fewer than 150 recordings in eBird / the Macaulay Library — the minimum that Merlin Sound ID needs to recognize them well. Choose your country, state, or department and discover the species that are near you.

How to find priority species

  1. Go to the Sound Recording Dashboard.
  2. Choose your country, state, or department.
  3. Explore the list of species that still need recordings.

Join the Specialists Club!

If you record 30 or more priority species in 2026, you will enter the Specialists Club.

Specialists will participate in prize drawings throughout the year, including a professional parabolic microphone Crake Sound Stereo Mic + Zoom H1.
